Mackenzie, Sir James
(12 abr. 1853, Scone, Perthshire, Escocia–26 ene. 1925, Londres, Inglaterra).

Cardiólogo escocés. Obtuvo su título de doctor en medicina en la Universidad de Edimburgo y practicó la profesión en Lancashire durante 25 años antes de trasladarse a Londres. En su clásico The Study of the Pulse [El estudio del pulso] (1902) describió un instrumento llamado polígrafo, que registraba simultáneamente los pulsos arterial y venoso, de modo que podían ser correlacionados con el latido cardíaco para distinguir entre irregularidades inocuas y peligrosas. Pionero del estudio de las arritmias cardíacas, también comprobó la eficacia de la digitalina en su tratamiento.
